Ujjain, India
Project Ujjain is a grassroots effort centered in the Ujjain region of the state of Madhya Pradesh in India. The project is designed to support local self-help efforts in several village communities in the region.
The aim of the project is to develop partnerships between key groups in the Ujjain area (religious groups, governmental agencies, and village networks) and "outside" groups and organizations, including NGOs, professional associations, religious congregations, etc.) to address some of the critical problems facing the people of the region. Areas of special focus include literacy, sanitation training, water conservation, and microcredit assistance to women's cooperatives.
Project Ujjain engages directly with members of those communities to reflect their concerns and hopes about to the issues to be addressed and ways of addressing them.
In 2004, IEP21 and Common Ground hosted a Chicago-area conference on Project Ujjain, featuring His Holiness, Saidas Babaji, president of the Sai Foundation and the principal Indian partner in the project.
IEP21 is working to encourge individuals, groups, and organizations to support the community development work of Saidas Babaji in the Ujjain region. For more information contact IEP21 or email Jim Kenney with the link below.
